What is Red Sterol?

If you need support for maintaining healthy cholesterol levels Red Sterol Complex is for you. A unique combination of plant sterols, red yeast rice, a traditional Chinese extract from rice fermented with monascus purpureus, and policosanol extract. Plant sterols block the absorption of cholesterol from your diet to help maintain normal blood cholesterol levels, whilst red yeast rice has been used for centuries for its potent health giving properties. Policosanol is found naturally in sugar cane waxes. The formula also includes cinnamon bark extract and vitamin E for complete support. Vitamin E helps protect against the oxidation of cholesterol.

Oxidation is a chemical process in the body where molecules in our cells, or in this case, fats such as cholesterol become damaged by unstable molecules called free radicals. It is believed that the oxidised cholesterol in particular is harmful to the health of the arteries, causing inflammation and hardening. Excessive oxidation may be caused by factors such as stress, smoking and alcohol.

How to take

Adults take 2 tablets twice a day after meals for 12 weeks, thereafter 1 tablet twice a day. Do not exceed recommended daily intake. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. The total dietary intake (from foods and supplements) of phytosterols should not exceed 3g a day and intake of monacolins from red yeast rice should be less than 3mg a day.

Do not take if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, if you are taking cholesterol-lowering medication or other products containing red yeast rice. If you are taking any medication or have a medical condition, please consult your healthcare professional before using this product. Seek advice from a doctor on consumption of this product if you experience any health problems. Not suitable for children below 5 years old and adults above 70 years old. May cause a temporary and harmless red colouring of the stool. Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of children.

One Lamberts^® Plant Sterol tablet a day can contribute to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. This tablet provides a full 800mg of ‘free’ (or pure) plant sterols with up to 80% beta-sitosterols. We quote the level of pure plant sterols in our tablets, not the compound weight declared by some companies, which may be only 50% sterols.

Plant sterols are naturally present in vegetable oils and grains, and have been shown to be vitally important for maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. In structure, plant sterols are similar to cholesterol and they have been shown to benefit health by partially blocking cholesterol from being re-absorbed from the gut. Cholesterol is naturally secreted in bile to aid digestion and then re-absorbed further down the gut. By blocking this re-absorption of cholesterol, plant sterols can have a positive effect on blood cholesterol levels, even if a low cholesterol diet is being consumed.

Modern diets tend to be low in plant sterols, and so increasingly foods such as margarine are being fortified with sterols. These fortified foods can make a contribution to the daily intake of sterols but achieving an optimum intake by this means may not suit everyone.
